Technical Support and Innovation Activities to Support OSHA Field Work (AIHce EXP 2023 OnDemand)

Course Description:
Recorded at AIHce EXP 2023

This session is designed to highlight new innovations that have been developed at OSHA's Salt Lake Technical Center (SLTC) to assist OSHA staff in conducting safety and health inspections and evaluations. We will present the findings of some of our most recent activities serving to enlighten all regarding safety and industrial hygiene practice in American workplaces. Specific topics covered will be: 1) quantitative air sampling in oxycodone manufacturing that was used to document overexposures in workers; 2) challenges of quantitative air sampling for peracetic acid in food processing; and 3) OSHA's use and application of thermal desorption GC-MS to target chemical exposures of concern.

Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of the session, the participant will be able to:

• Describe OSHA's sampling and analytical methods for assessing worker exposures to oxycodone and peracetic acid.
• Discuss OSHA's use of Thermal Desorption GC-MS as a screening tool to target additional chemical exposure monitoring.
