A Case for Improved Health and Safety Support in the Entertainment Industry (AIHce EXP 2023 OnDemand)

One industry that continually demonstrates a growing need for more consistent and robust support from H&S professionals is the entertainment industry. This educational session will discuss: 1) how the entertainment industry has stalled in evolving H&S efforts; 2) uniques aspects of the industry (e.g., gig workers, unions, 16 hr. workdays); 3) what is being done in the industry to provide H&S support; 4) data on why & where more needs to be done (e.g., injuries, fatalities, mental health); and 5) proposed solutions and paths forward to protect entertainment industry workers.

Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of the session, the participant will be able to:

• Evaluate the lack of H&S evolution in the entertainment industry.
• Recognize the entertainment industry hierarchy.
• Discuss how certain normalized expectations in the industry threaten workers' H&S.
• Analyze what is currently being done.
• Identify H&S gaps and needs for the future.
• Leverage OEHS professionals to implement awareness and change.
