Hazard Evaluation Technique Selection (AIHce EXP 2023 OnDemand)

Course Description:
Recorded at AIHce EXP 2023

Hazard analysis (HA) is a systematic approach to identifying, analyzing, and controlling hazards. Some hazard analysis techniques also integrate the element of risk to further evaluate the effectiveness of controls and the levels of unmitigated and residual risk. Because there are many different applications for hazard analysis, the HA process comes in many different shapes and sizes. A common thread between all hazard analysis methodologies is the integration of two fundamental elements: a) hazard identification, and b) hazard evaluation. Just as the hazard analysis process is varied, so are the resources that outline and discuss this discipline. This presentation will provide: 1) a high-level overview of the hazard analysis concept, 2) several common hazard evaluation techniques, and 3) selection criteria on how to choose the appropriate technique.

Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of the session, the participant will be able to:

• Summarize the Hazard Analysis concept.
• Identify the differences in the commonly used Hazard Evaluation techniques.
• Discuss the criteria used to select the appropriate HA technique.
