The Latest in Exposure Science and Hazard Communication for Engineered Nanomaterials in Construction (AIHce EXP 2023 OnDemand)

Course Description:
Recorded at AIHce EXP 2023

This education session will summarize recent trends and findings regarding the application of engineered nanomaterials in construction. Topics will include: 1) studies that investigated nanomaterial exposures in construction; 2) sampling strategies; 3) preliminary onsite analyses; 4) the value of conducting staggered sampling durations for optimal filter loading for electron microscopy analysis; 5) hazard communication for nanomaterials in construction; and 6) an update on U.S. and international standards development. Attendees will be provided with free educational tools and resources for improving hazard communication in construction, including toolbox talks and a demonstration of a new website that allows users to easily evaluate safety data sheets for nanomaterials and receive recommendations for improvement.

Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of the session, the participant will be able to:
• Leverage research to develop and deploy sampling strategies and control measures.
• Communicate risks to workers and employers.
• Identify the prevalent applications of engineered nanomaterials in construction.
• Explain existing and proposed standards pertaining to nanomaterial hazard communication.
