Course Description:
Recorded at AIHce EXP 2022
AIHA is in the process of publishing an updated version of the Industrial Hygiene Performance Metrics text. This presentation will outline the information in the Ergonomics Chapter and provide simple illustrations of evaluation tools and how it ties into the ARECC process. Using the ARECC credo of Anticipate, Recognize, Evaluate, Control, and Confirm; the chapter provides explanation of basic ergonomic evaluation tools, controls for common material handling processes, and how to cost justify those controls. In the Anticipate and Recognize steps, how to identify ergonomic issues is discussed. In the Evaluation step, three evaluation tools (REBA, NIOSH Lifting Equation and the Liberty Mutual Manual Material Handling Equations) are reviewed and applied to case studies. A simple application of an Office Ergonomics/Work from Home scenario is also reviewed. The Control step discusses potential solutions to the case studies evaluated and includes a simple cost justification example. In the Confirm step, the controls are evaluated using the tools to demonstrate that the controls are effective.
Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of the session, the participant will be able to:
• Provide attendees with ergonomic evaluation tools.
• Discuss how to cost justify controls.
• Use evaluation tools to confirm implemented controls are effective.
