The focus of this study was to determine whole-body vibration (WBV) exposure levels onboard Coast Guard small boats with emphasis on reducing acute/chronic injuries and illnesses. Four objectives were completed: 1) perform vibration measurements to determine crew WBV exposure levels; 2) determine the minimum and worst-case daily exposure duration and vibration magnitude; 3) interpret exposure results relative to known standards and acute/chronic health effects; and 4) provide feedback and mitigation recommendations to the Coast Guard. The WBV exposure results were evaluated utilizing methods in the ISO 2631-1 standard. Coast Guard small boat personnel are likely exceeding the action level anytime they operate a small boat and may also exceed the exposure limit.

- Complete vibration measurements.
- Identify health effects associated with WBV exposure.
- Describe the frequency range which results in health effects.
- Outline the natural frequencies of specific body parts.
