Mitigation Through Decontamination PDC Recording

Course Description:
Recorded at AIHce EXP 2021

This PDC will cover issues with the decontamination of hazardous materials. In order to protect responders and the public, it is essential that the hazardous materials do not travel from the expulsion zone. The contamination reduction zone is where the decontamination process occurs and where it is necessary to control exposure. The course will cover: 1) what decontamination is; 2) different decontamination techniques for chemical, biological, and radiological contaminants, etc.; 3) real-world case studies to show issues and lessons learned; and, 4) unique considerations for special populations. Special populations are those individuals considered to have functional and access needs and require special circumstances for undergoing the decontamination process efficiently.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion, the participant will be able to:

  • Identify the correct decontamination techniques for the CBRN agent or TIM.
  • Develop a decontamination plan.
  • Make contaminant collection and disposal decisions.
  • Determine the challenges to protecting responders/the public when conducting decontamination during an emergency response.
