Integrating IH Into an ISO 45001 Management System (AIHce EXP 2020 OnDemand)

Course Description:
Recorded at Virtual AIHce EXP 2020

Most occupational health and safety management systems (OHSMS), notably ANSI Z 10 and ISO 45001, do not address how an IH Program or occupational medicine (OM) fits as part of the system elements. For example, risk assessment does not exclude health exposures, nor does it specify how to evaluate safety risks. It may be prudent to take a look at: a) how IH and OM fit into the various system elements; b) which ones apply to the Plan, Do, Check, Act schema; and c) if there are any gaps to consider when developing or implementing a world class OHSMS. This presentation will: 1) demonstrate how industrial hygiene and occupational medicine fit into an overall OHSMS and 2) discuss what steps are necessary to validate that an IH or OM program is at an ISO equivalent level? References to existing publications and guidelines will be used to guide the audience to look at existing criteria, and have them assign an implementation strategy to reach maturity levels for an ISO 45001 level IH and OM program beyond world class.

Learning Objectives:
Upon completion, the participant will be able to:

  • Identify the gaps in ISO 45001 OHSMS for IH and Occupational Medicine elements.
  • Plan an implementation strategy for programs to be at an ISO 45001 equivalent level.
  • Locate references for completing the IH and OM OHSMS.
