Total Exposure Health - The Role of the IH in the Future of Exposure Management (AIHce EXP 2020 OnDemand)

Course Description:
Recorded at Virtual AIHce EXP 2020

Human health outcomes are being recognized as the result of a complex interaction of factors including exposure to environmental agents, socioeconomic stressors, personal behaviors, and individual genomics. Advancements in science and technology are allowing for the more robust collection and integration of these factors to interventions and decision-making. AIHA has identified the intersection of these issues, as captured in the Total Exposure Health content priority, as a critical focus for the industrial hygiene community. Part 1 of a 2-part session will explore how industrial hygienists can engage in shaping the future of exposure management through: 1) Total Exposure Health initiatives originated by the U.S. Air Force, and 2) NIOSH's Total Worker Health initiative. The session will conclude with a panel Q&A audience discussion around the differences and similarities in these initiatives and how to apply them and demonstrate the value of the IH profession.

Learning Objectives:
Upon completion, the participant will be able to:

  • Develop an understanding of the AIHA Total Exposure Health content priority.
  • Discuss how to increase their knowledge in this arena and become involved.
  • Leverage their core skills to increase the influence of the IH profession to other stakeholders.
