Reducing Workers' Exposure to Metal Particulates During Bag Changing Operation Twice a year the filter bags in a dust collector need to be emptied or changed. During the original industrial hygiene assessment in 2013, the bag emptying process involved the employee patting or beating the bag, unzipping the bottom of the bag and allowing the waste material to fall into a cardboard box. In 2014, the bags were not emptied but completely changed which resulted in a significant reduction in employee exposure to total particulates and metals. The process has been further modified and the bags now do not have a zipper at the bottom and the waste metal particulates now fall from the bag into a cardboard tube with a plastic pail bottom. The filled tube is now removed from the bag and replaced with a new tube.

Exposure Assessment Challenges in a Pulp and Paper Mill
Pulp mills and other industrial sites often involve a complex mixture of process chemicals that creates challenges associated with assessing the risk, and developing effective and practical risk mitigation measures. This presentation will discuss the challenges associated with assessing the risk, and developing effective and practical risk mitigation measures for process gases generated in pulp and paper mills.

Mercury Management During Refinery Turnarounds
This session will discuss the potential for mercury exposures in refinery process equipment, surface detection technologies currently available, control strategies and safe work practices for personal protection of workers. Mercury management challenges during turnarounds can present delays and increase costs if not managed effectively. Mercury management best practices and lessons learned from refinery turnarounds will be presented.
