Total Worker Health is being advocated by NIOSH, researchers and employers, as a holistic approach that can be more effective than focusing only on traditional hazard reduction. Many of the nontraditional issues addressed by TWH deal with chronic hazards, which are the domain of industrial hygiene. Fatigue, stress, aging, comorbidities, substance abuse and others can make employees more likely to suffer a work-related injury or illness and take longer to recover. The workplace can be the cause of or aggravate chronic conditions. Resources from NIOSH and other organizations will be reviewed. This session will help you demonstrate the value of IH within TWH and get yourself a seat at the table.
